Will that be 2 or 3 stories for your new home?

The Las Vegas Business Press is reporting that three story homes are becoming a more common reality. As land prices rise and available terrain shrinks, residential developers are taking a page from the books of cities like Chicago and New York and are building up rather than out. Close to a half-dozen homebuilders are now trying their hand at three-story homes in Southern Nevada.

Rising Concern About the Housing Market

The Yahoo Press Wire is reporting the concern over the potential crash of the housing boom in Las Vegas is so intense, that on March 23, 2006, over 30 people gathered to discuss how they could help avert this crisis. Present at the gathering were insurance agents, a chef, a former U.S. Attorney, parents, realtors, loan officers, escrow agents and other Las Vegas residents. The host of the gathering, Rob Rozzen, owner of Sin City Sweets and one of Nevada’s top realtors. The consensus among the attendees was to educate Las Vegas residents.

Pet Owners Face Bite

Henderson and other local governments are preparing to put more bite into their laws controlling dangerous pets. Under an ordinance expected to be adopted by the Henderson City Council on Tuesday, it would become more costly and burdensome to own a dangerous dog. The measure also would establish procedures that could lead to euthanizing pets that attack people or other animals.

Clark County, North Las Vegas and Boulder City are moving ahead with similar measures as part of a regional crackdown on dangerous animals and pet overpopulation. Read the rest of this article at the Las Vegas Sun.

Property Tax Reform for Nevada?

A national anti-tax group said Friday it will donate $10,000 to jump-start the campaign in Nevada backing a property tax initiative modeled after California’s landmark tax rollback Proposition 13. The money is intended to boost the campaign’s signature gathering efforts and combat misinformation about the Angle Property Tax Restraint Initiative, a proposal spearheaded by assemblywoman and Republican congressional candidate Sharron Angle of Reno, the donors said. Foreclosures Have Jumped!

KLAS-TV reported on Friday, April 14th that many homeowners in the Las Vegas valley may be overextending themselves, because home foreclosures have jumped dramatically in the past year.

The median price of a home is up to $314,000 and that has driven the monthly mortgage payment up as well, which is up nearly $200 a month since this time last year to nearly $1,800.
